CLOTHES 101

CRAFTSMANSHIP IS AT THE CORE OF EVERYTHING WE DO. A TOUGH ELEGANCE, INSIDE AND OUT.

What we do that’s different:

FABRIC
We believe in beautiful fabric and working with mills that treat weaving as a craft. We work with Japanese mills for our cotton shirting and technical fabrics and aim to use silk wherever we can. Our nylon bomber has a silk & wool back because we believe even tough clothes deserve some elegance.

FRENCH SEAMS
This is a finishing technique where clean edge is made inside the garment. To achieve this effect each seam is sewn TWICE, doubling the labor required to sew a garment together.
Fast fashion focuses on “marrow” stitching usually used on t-shirts and sweatshirts or for certain fabrics. Check out the inside of the shirt you're wearing and see how it was made!
Compare the quality of the below images of the french seam (first photo) vs. the marrow seam (second photo):

BOUND SEAMS
Another way to create a beautiful finish is to bind the raw edge of a seam with another fabric, making the inside as beautiful as the outside.

DETAILS
We agonize over every button and every zipper – literally. We don't work overseas so we count buttons and custom cut zippers ourselves. We believe details make clothing truly special and keepsake -- our Ribbon Tie shirt is made with over 2 yards of ribbon – an extravagance that we think you deserve!
